Explore life in Victorian times through hands on experiences and investigation.
Choose two activities for a part day, or all three for a full day workshop:
The Victorians at Home
Visit the room sets to discover what home life was like in the late Victorian period, including the nursery, kitchen and wash house. This guided session includes an object handling activity where children explore domestic items from the past.
The Victorians at School
Join us in the schoolroom where we will investigate the behaviour and skills expected of Victorian children. You’ll also practice your reading, writing and ‘rithmetic. This is followed by a handling activity with Victorian toys and games.
The Victorians at Work
Visit shops and trades from the past including the chemist, printers, Co-op and post office. Then take part in the Agriculture Challenge where children work in small teams to identify agricultural machinery invented by the Victorians. Discover how ‘Made in Lincolnshire’ became a byword for innovation and excellence in agriculture and beyond.
Additional options
Cross site workshops – For single classes we can offer a combined trip including two of the above activities in the morning and a visit to the Victorian Prison at Lincoln Castle after lunch.
