In the first century the Romans were the first people to create a city where Lincoln now stands – Lindum Colonia. Our extensive Roman artefact collections give an insight into what life must have been like at the time. We even have our very own Roman mosaic found on the site of the museum!
Our workshop sessions include three of the following:
Museum Investigation – Roman Lincoln brought to life
Digging the Romans – Explore the Roman finds in a mini dig.
Life in Roman Lindum Colonia – Go shopping in this centre of Roman trade and find out what foods were available and how they were paid for in our immersive shopping experience. This session can also incorporate a Roman fashion activity too.
Life in the Roman Army – Learn how Roman soldiers were chosen and trained with a chance to march like a Roman soldier and handle replica equipment.
The sessions include artefact handling and creative art activities, for example jewellery, shield or mosaic making.
Additional options:
Roman Posterngate – For older students you may wish to link this workshop with a guided learning experience to include a visit to the Roman Posterngate (offsite and a short walk away from the museum).
Cross site workshops – For late 2021 we are introducing a new bespoke cross site Roman Lincoln offer which links sessions at The Collection Museum and Lincoln Castle. See Romans offer BL02.
