The Investigate Learning offer at Gainsborough Old Hall captures the significance and excitement of a visit from King Henry VIII in 1541. ‘A visitor experience with meaning’ is how one teacher recently described the school session at Gainsborough Old Hall. This is truly an amazing building and the sessions allow pupils to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of such an important manor house. The royal visitors and interesting events linked to the hall give us wonderful details to investigate and hands on activities will engage and delight.
Only Part Day options are available for the Workshop Experiences at Gainsborough Old Hall. These can be combined with Guided or Self-led options to extend your visit to the site.
We are currently in the process of reviewing and expanding our learning offer at Gainsborough Old Hall. On the horizon are the following learning offers:
Richard III and the late medieval hall, which will focus on the visit to the hall by the Yorkist king at the time of the Wars of the Roses. When he visited he would have found an excellent medieval manor house with welcoming owners. It will also review the portraits in the gallery to investigate the characters related to the hall.
Mayflower 400. Watch out for the 2020 project learning offers which are being developed to highlight the links between the Mayflower Pilgrims and Gainsborough. This internationally significant time in our history is about to celebrate its 400th anniversary and our learning workshop will link to the new exhibition related to the characters and events.
We will update the website once we have more news!
