After the success of our collaborative projects and workshops in 2018 (see attached case study) we have more exciting learning experiences planned for 2019.
Our workshop experiences respond to the exhibitions and this year we are also linking to the following exhibitions in addition to our permanent collection –

- Dinosaur Encounter: 13 July – 8 September

Latest Investigate learning history resource – watch our film on Éamon de Valera’s dramatic escape from Lincoln Prison
On the evening of the 3rd of February 1919 Éamon de Valera, arguably the most famous and influential Irish statesman of modern times, along with two other Irish rebels, Seàn McGarry and Seàn Milroy, dramatically escaped from Lincoln Prison. This film was made as a student project with Stuart Riley, a talented young filmmaker, and the Investigate Learning Officer Erik Grigg, to bring this interesting story to life. It was shot at sites across the city, including the Museum of Lincolnshire Life and Lincoln Castle.
On the (rather misty) evening of the 3rd of February 1919 Éamon de Valera and two colleagues (Seàn McGarry and Seàn Milroy) used the key to escape the prison smuggled into the prison in a cake. Outside were a few helpers including Michael Collins. They made their way across the allotments at the back of the prison towards Wragby Road to the Adam and Eve pub where a taxi was waiting.
Lincoln Christ Hospital School was a military hospital at that time and the prisoners had to bluff their way past some convalescing soldiers who were courting with some of the nurses outside the hospital.

The Collaborative gallery project held on Wednesday 5th December worked wonders as evidence for the Arts Award. Our Artsmark Partnership work is a very creative way of supporting schools!
Creative Arts at The Collection & Usher Gallery
Here we see Giles Academy and St Hughes Primary Academy students assembling their final collaborative art work for the gallery wall this week.
They really enjoyed working together on this piece inspired by the Land, City & Sea exhibition. There are more projects and workshops planned for 2019 so contact the learning manager if your school is interested.

The Investigate Learning team launched the new Creative Arts workshops and projects in September and it has been very exciting.
The students have enjoyed visiting the exhibitions and responding to them with their own artistic creations. Two schools also collaborated on a grand piece named ‘Magic Maps of Lincolnshire’.
It was really great to see the older students supporting the younger ones and working together!
As well as a display from the Big Draw ‘Disco Doodle’ holiday event, the gallery is exhibiting art work from students aged 9 to 18 from three schools, Giles Academy, Tuxford Academy and St Hughes Primary Academy.
There is much more planned for 2019 as we link to exhibitions and work with the artists in residence. Exciting creative times!
